The Group Stage of EPICENTER 2019 is over and we’re about to enter the Playoffs Stage. Six of the initial eight teams are still in the race and they will compete for a remaining prize pool of $480,000. The winner will receive $250,000 of that amount, so the battle will certainly be fierce.

EPICENTER 2019 Group Stage Results

This part of the tournament took three days and ended without too many upsets. In fact, there was only one instance in which you could say that the opposite of what was expected took place. The case involved Virtus.pro, a team many had hoped would at least finish 3rd in Group B. However, they finished 4th whilst forZe did considerably better than what was predicted, ending up in 2nd place.

Of course, this would not have been possible without Evil Geniuses playing rather poorly and finishing in 3rd place with a round score of 74 W – 88 L. In a way this not surprising, simply because this team is known for having a very high ceiling but also a very low floor. They can win or they can just as easily finish last.

In Group A, Team Vitality crushed everyone with relative ease, even though they finished one map at a close score against EHOME (16 – 12) and lost another one to Na’Vi (4 – 16). However, their other three maps were phenomenal: 16 – 1 (vs. EHOME), 16 – 3 (vs. Na’Vi) and 16 – 3 (vs. Na’Vi).

Na’Vi finished 2nd in this group, after beating Heroic twice. Both matches were fairly easy for them, even though they did lose one map in the second one.

The complete results for the Group Stage of EPICENTER 2019 were as follows:

Group A

  • 1st place: Team Vitality
  • 2nd place: Natus Vincere
  • 3rd place: Heroic
  • 4th place: EHOME

Group B

  • 1st place: mousesports
  • 2nd place: forZe
  • 3rd place: Evil Geniuses
  • 4th place: Virtus.pro

EPICENTER 2019 Playoffs Matches

In the Playoffs, there will be five matches in total, all of them Bo3. Right now, Team Vitality and mousesports are waiting in the Semifinals and they will likely be the teams to also qualify for the Grand Final, simply because the skill difference between themselves and the other competitors is quite significant at this point. The only thing that could really change this outcome would be a stellar performance from either EG or Na’Vi. And neither of them have looked impressive so far at EPICENTER 2019.

forZe vs. Heroic

This match will no doubt be very close but it is still Heroic favored. The Danish team is much more experienced than the CIS one and will likely win thanks to its ability to cope much better with the pressure of big stages.

Na’Vi vs. Evil Geniuses

Even though major bookmaker Buff.bet favors EG, we actually think that Na’Vi has a good chance to win this game, at least based on these two teams’ performances during the Group Stage. EG has a better roster overall but they’re out of shape and Na’Vi has two of the best players in the world, s1mple and electronic. While they’re around, it’s hard to imagine anyone beating Na’Vi without being at the top of their game.
