A series of unfortunate events all tying to COVID-19
As everything is quite unlucky in 2020, ONE Esports Dota 2 Indonesia got its share of pandemic in troubles many ways. The first and foremost was the rescheduling of the event. Originally, ONE Esports Dota 2 Jakarta event was planned to take place in 17-19 April 2020. After the event was put in question due to travel restrictions, ONE Esports decided to merge both the Jakarta event and Indonesia Invitational under one major level event.
Qualified teams and the fall of Reality Rift
Two teams were given a chance to qualify to the event through qualifiers held in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. Each of the two featured one direct invitee and one representative from the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia respectively.
BOOM Esports and Reality Rift, the two teams that were the original invitees to each qualifier also managed to secure their spot at the main event.
A few months after securing their spot, Reality Rift decided to shut down their Dota 2 branch permanently on September 1st. The players that originally qualified for the event are likely to participate under the ex-Reality Rift name or a name of their choosing.
There is also an added possibility the team refuses to participate, in which case ONE Esports will assign the slot to a different team.
